External Triggering

External triggering is by far the most common type of acoustic set triggering. Some of these triggers clip on to the drum rim itself, such as the drum Red Shots or the Pulse Red Hots. Other types may need to be secured some other way. M-Pro Triggers recommends using a substantial amount of duct tape to secure your external trigger to prevent against movement, which may cause crosstalk and double triggering. Less movement will also make your triggers last longer.

When securing your trigger to the drum rim, make sure to put it somewhere where it will not get hit by your drum sticks, such as the side furthest from where you usually hit on the drum. For extra protection from accidental blows to the sensitive trigger, a small piece of round cardboard can be attached to the head of the trigger itself.
